Evaluation of Ecosystem-Based Adaptation Measures for Sediment Yield in a Tropical Watershed in Thailand

Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) can potentially mitigate watershed degradation problems. In this study, various EbA measures were evaluated using a bio-physical model called the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), in small, forested named Hui Ta Poe, northeastern region of Thailand. The developed was first used to investigate effect degraded watersheds due land-use changes on sediment yield study area. most produced an annual average 13.5 tons/ha. This then evaluate effectiveness such as reforestation, contouring, filter strips, grassed waterways reducing yield. Under all individual combined scenarios analyzed, there significant reduction yield; however, maximum 88% achieved with scenario waterways, strips. Reforestation alone found be second-best option, which could reduce by 84%. Contouring least effective, only 23%. demonstrates usefulness implementing for management strategies address degradation, is severe problem across globe.
